Screw Chocolate–“Who’s Chocolate?” “Really, Zellie? You went there?”–how a legend was born

So there we were, a dozen or so queer writers dreading the onset of Valentine’s Day for various reasons, and I said, you know what we should do? Write about it.

And we did it.

We released out first collection online in February 2017. First small step! Just on this blog, because we weren’t sure… how… what… or if anyone would want to read it. But it went super-well, and so we released Queer Christmas in Cowtown that December, followed by another Valentine’s collection in February 2018–at which point we turned Screw Chocolate into a book. Because we’re awesome. Since then, we’ve released four collections, and as you’re reading this, I’m working on our fifth! Woo-hoo!

All the YYC Queer Writers collections raise funds for Camp fYrefly. Camp fYrefly is a summer camp and leadership retreat  designed for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified, two-spirited, intersexed, queer, and questioning youth, (LGBTQ2S+) and planned in part by a committee of the same youth it seeks to serve. Camp fYrefly  is designed to help youth develop the leadership skills and personal resiliency necessary for them to become agents for positive change in their schools, families, and communities. In a word, it helps keep queer kids alive.

As you wait with bated breath for the December 2019 release of Queer Christmas in Cowtown 2, enjoy my piece “The Shy Girl’s Guide to Sexting” from Screw Chocolate 1.

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

SCREW CHOCOLATE: 14 Queer Valentines To Help You Survive February 14 is a collaborative project by YYC Queer Writers. We get together intermittently to… write. Also, laud our lovers. Commiserate about our exes. Read each other what we wrote. Explain what we want to write. Try to justify why we aren’t writing it. Go home and write it. Come back. Share it… repeat.

Writer. Reader. Angster. Reformed Bohemian (not). Author of the erotic romance TELL ME, the erotic tragedy (with a happy ending) CONSEQUENCES (of defensive adultery), the award-winning rom-com (she's versatile) CHERRY PIE CURE, and the just released TEXT ME, CUPID--a (slightly dirty) love story for 21st century adults who don't believe in love... but want it anyway. A sought-after speaker and presenter, Colette is also the author of the Dirty Writing Secrets Series, which includes the non-fiction collection of essays ROUGH DRAFT CONFESSIONS: not a guide to writing and selling erotica and romance but full of inside inside anyway, 101 FLIRTY WRITING PROMPTS TO SEDUCE YOUR MUSE, and ORGANIZED CREATIVE.
