“M. Jane Colette knows how to write characters. The motivations, the actions following the motives, and the reactions to the actions of the whole cast of characters (1) were so distinct from one another and (2) made perfect sense based on the development I as a reader saw for each character. This isn’t a 2-dimensional character erotic novel. These people feel real, you will feel like you could step right into their world. You can’t help but root for them.”

BUT WHAT ARE YOUR BOOKS ABOUT?

I write about love, sex, dysfunctional families… and happy endings. But never mind what I think I do. Here’s what my readers say.

Told in large part through steamy sexting exchanges between Jane and her “forever lover” Matt, M. Jane Colette’s first novel, TELL ME:

“really pushes at the boundaries of erotica”

“a must read and will leave you wanting more”

“Sexy and messy and full of competing desires and passions. Just like life. Just like the best relationships.”

“social realist erotica and there isn’t much of that around”

“The Caliber of Writing in This Book is Unheard of in This Genre”

“Intelligent & Sexy”

“Juicy piece of work, can’t wait for more from M Jane Colette.”

“frenetic and complex and often funny and very well observed”

“Very well written sexy fiction!”

“a very inspired book and approach to the genre”

“went all the places that Fifty Shades didn’t and some”

“a Desperate Housewives/ Sex and the City but without the Cinderella glamour and make-believe”

“I found Jane and her friends’ secret lives and Jane’s inner life slightly terrifying

“the characterisation is post-modern rather than traditional genre”

“Innovative, steamy.”

“a sophisticated read with all of the intrigue of the erotica genre”

“The Thinking Woman’s Erotica”

good to get a bit of male panic going”

“The way the author presented a love affair almost exclusively through texting was brilliant.”

“More. Is there more?”

…and will “leave you breathless and begging for more.”

The publisher told her not to put adultery in the title. There was a fight. She called it CONSEQUENCES (OF DEFENSIVE ADULTERY) anyway:

“I couldn’t put this book down.”

“The way Elizabeth’s story of her marriage—her relationship with her husband, and the relationships with her stepdaughter, sister-in-law, and his ex—is framed by the explicit encounter between her and her lover makes reading this book a really interesting experience. Her lover interrupts her, teases her, plays with her, pushes her…. It changes how the reader understands their relationship. It takes her storytelling in different directions.”

“The relationships between all the women feel so real.”

“The way the story is told is really sexy and different.”

“scandalously delicious and deliciously scandalous”

“I did not expect to like Liz as much as I do. She’s a cheater. You know that going into the story—it’s literally written on the book’s face. But as she talks to her unnamed, faceless lover-of-the-moment, you begin to feel for her. The way she relates to people, her little quirks, the men she chooses to cheat with, all of these things paint a vivid picture of a woman you can’t help but empathize with.”

“It’s a family drama, very real and raw and sexy and tragic and funny.”

“smart, heartbreaking feminist romance”

“…a tenuous trembling thing, this web of people pulled together into a knot of relationships, all painful, all vital, but all the push-pull kind of hate-love…

…Elizabeth is strung between them all, hero and aggressor and victim in one, more naturally reactive, struggling to become active on her own. She is, in other words, extremely human.”

“original and compelling”

“These characters… are not paper dolls—one always has the feeling, when reading, of having stumbled on a secret, of being let in to spy on something real and fraught and difficult that will go on whether or not one’s watching. But you can’t, in the end, help but watch anyway.”

“M. Jane Colette KNOWS how to write characters. This isn’t a 2-dimensional character erotic novel. These people feel real, you will feel like you could step right into their world. You can’t help but root for them.”

“You won’t be able to stop reading.”

“I liked how the story is told; Elizabeth the heroine tells her new lover about the intimate aspects of her life during some pretty hot sex play. Or rather he pulls the details out of her, sometimes calling her on her version of them and sometimes re-interpreting their significance.”

“I was sucked right into Elizabeth’s life. This book is so delicious, I enjoyed every minute of it. It’s sexy, it’s poignant.”

“Moments of tragedy, comedy & touching scenes. And all the sex, which falls into those categories & several more explicit ones.”

Consequences takes you on a journey through a woman’s love life, complete with mistakes, selfishness and sacrifice. M Jane Colette’s characters are ~real~, not just superficially flawed enough to carry a plot.”

“She continues to intrigue her reader. I loved this book.”

“I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a sexy, intelligent, complicated, and fascinating read about relationships that are as complex and difficult and wonderful and confusing as most relationships usually are.”

“outrageously hot feminist romance”

“The author succeeded on so many levels with her writing style and how she took on some weighty issues. I hadn’t expected to like this book as much as I did and that deserves 5 stars.”

“All of the revelations equal freedom. And ultimately lead to a surprise happy ending.”

“I loved loved the ending.”

A LOL rom-com about texting, blogging, and the power of love—and cherry pie—as well as the winner of the 2018 Next Generation Independent Book Publishers Award in the chick lit categoryCHERRY PIE CURE takes the blog form, the May-December romance trope, and mixes them up into a unique, award-winning recipe:

“Completely tantalizing!”

“A funny romance of an empty nester (she’s 43) finding out her husband is cheating and ruining Christmas. Then she flirts with the stockboy/cashier (he’s 31) at the local grocery store. I thought that the story would be awkward because it is 100% blog posts and comments, but that is what made it a fun read. The comments had me laughing out loud much of the time; they were from Marcella, her friend, an assortment of followers, and of course, some spam.”

“Warning: You may breakout in spontaneous laughter, develop cravings for baked goods and become a life-long devotee of the author!”

“funny, smart, poignant”

“I loved this book! Susan is getting a divorce from her cheating, douchy husband, John. Her BFF, Marcella, encourages her to blog about her feelings as a form of therapy. She’s reluctant (and not so great with technology), but gives it a try. The entire book consists of her blog posts and comments from her followers. It was an interesting format, sad, poignant, and laugh out loud funny. I’ll definitely be looking at Ms. Colette’s backlist.”

“I loved watching Susan’s character blossom from meek, lonely and insecure to funny, confident and sexually brazen.”

it was like reading a diary

“ I ADORED this book! …the story flowed so easy and fast…it was like reading a diary, with Susan’s hilarious thoughts strung together as she navigates being a middle aged divorcé.”

“This was definitely a fun, unique take on the May-December trope!”

“I was just going to read a few chapters before bed and I stayed up reading until three in the morning—I just couldn’t stop turning the pages.”

“sticky sweet ending”

“The blog comments will keep you laughing and feeling the warmth between internet strangers…it’s a unique storytelling style but it really worked for me.”

“funny, touching and uplifting”

“I absolutely loved this book. It was an easy really really entertaining read. It’s super sexy, leaving a lot to my imagination but giving lots of cues and ideas. I enjoyed getting to know all the characters and seeing the little community the created evolve.”

“I’m giving this one 5 stars for originality.”

“I loved the message I got from the book… to loosen up and enjoy life more. To trust that things will always work out somehow.”

“one of those heart warming books that leaves feeling good.”

“I really enjoyed this book. Fun, light- despite the sometimes heavy subject matter. A unique and easy to follow format makes it feel like a peek into Susan’s life.”

“perfect summer read”

“The author tells Susan’s evolving story mostly through the blogging which is a very unusual approach to say the least, but which totally works. It’s genius actually. I laughed at some of the outrageous comments from Susan’s followers and felt like I was one of them, even if my comments were only in my head. And I was so hoping that it would all turn out well for Susan in the end. It does. The ending is just as delicious as cherry pie.”

“LMAO!!”

“So so funny! I love Susan! Actually I enjoyed all the characters and loved hating her husband! Hope for more like this one!”

“This book should not be read in a public place due to inappropriate bouts of giggling and laughter eg, on a night flight home to the UK (when everyone is trying to sleep).”

“The first time I’d read a story written in this style, but after the first few posts you get hooked.”

“If you are looking for a light hearted romantic comedy or ways to traumatise your grown children with conversations of sex this book is for you.”

*Review quotes collected from GoodReads, Amazon, and assorted book review blogs. Oh.

And this one’s from M. Jane Colette’s mom:

“Amazing! Love the idea, the dynamics, the interactions! You are a genius!”

She’s talking about Cherry Pie Cure (which is funny and hardly filthy at all), NOT Tell Me (which is outrageously filthy and, to quote another reviewer, “too smart to be porn and too dirty to be literature”).

The new novel, Text Me, Cupid, Jane thinks, falls somewhere in-between. What do you think?
