He doesn’t work here anymore #cherrypiecure

I went back to Safeway.

He wasn’t there.

“Fight for him.”

Ok.

I went to see the manager.

“I’m looking for Reza,” I said. “I was wondering if you could tell me when he works next.”

“Are you the cheating girlfriend?” she said.

Ok, no, she didn’t actually say that.

I felt that she wanted to say that.

But then I thought—he’d never tell. Would he? No, he wouldn’t talk about me, about that—no matter how angry he was. I knew that. He wouldn’t. He would never humiliate me in front of someone else.

I knew that as certainly as…

I just knew.

What she actually said was…

“He doesn’t work here any more.”

“Oh.”

“We didn’t expect to keep him long anyway,” she said. “Not with his qualifications. But it was great to have him here for a while.”

“His qualifications?” I said.

“He has a PhD in electrical engineering,” she said. “He’s going to be teaching at the university now. Isn’t that wonderful? Part-time. But still. We’re all so happy for him.”

I blinked.

How did this never come up?

How did I never know, or ask?

All the things I don’t know.

Maybe now I will never know.

God.

sugar&spice76: Ok, that’s a start honey. What next?

susan-oh-susan: The apartment.

sugar&spice76: Good.

ilikeherbooty-full: Cut my girl some slack, Sugar. This is the chick who didn’t know she was allowed to text a dude two months ago. She doing good.

goddessofvictory: She’s killing it. And Susan, you’ve got to tell them what else you’re dealing with while all this is going on.

susan-oh-susan: Why? It doesn’t matter.

goddessofvictory: You’re being amazing and you’re not sharing. You’re just showing your goo. Not your… I don’t know, not your strength.

Caspian00XO: And if you don’t tell us, Nika will.

goddessofvictory: I will not, Caz. I have learned something here. And yes, from you.
