So, a romance writer walks into a bar full of people who write noir…
Damn straight I can write noir.
Dirty noir.
😉
Ok, so in the More Than A Guilty Pleasure class, one of the things I was trying to convey to the writers is that there was no such thing as a “well-rounded writer” (any more than there is a well-rounded person). We all have our individual strengths and weaknesses–and all the new science shows that what we should be doing is developing those strengths (and shoring up our weaknesses by collaborating with people for whom they are strengths).
The things that you’re really good at? They’re what makes up your voice, your style, your SIGNATURE.
Focus on the stuff you’re good. Skip the stuff you suck at. Really. You don’t want your weaknesses to become your signature. Trust me.
Yeah. You don’t have to climb the tree if you’re a fish or elephant. Swim or spray some shit out of your trunk instead.
Anyway.
Noir.
Damn straight I can write noir.
So long as it’s dirty noir.
Stay tuned to find out what I did with THAT…
Coming soon from Coffin Hop Press—Baby, It’s Cold Outside, a collection of noir shorts, edited by Sarah L. Johnson and Robert Bose, and featuring stories from E.C. Bell, Alex Benarzi, Rob Brunet, Chris Patrick Carolan, , S.A. Cosby, Meredith Frazier, Therese Greenwood, Jim Jackson, Claude Lalumiere, Liam Sweeney, Kevin P. Thornton, Darusha Wehm, and Sam Wiebe, as well as my noir erotica piece, “Violets.”
You can get a taste of the soundtrack to my piece here: Christmas Songs By Dead People. To, you know, set the mood.
“Violets,” by the way, features a cameo by Text Me, Cupid‘s Florence. I couldn’t resist.
