We are in Week 4 (five, if you count our class-less but prompt-full week) of the More Than A Guilty Pleasure: Mastering the Romance Novel Form to Tell the Perfect Story class, and this week, we drill into the do’s and don’ts of Act 1.
We’re going to talk about the star, the villain, and the principles that should drive a strong first act… and throw a hell of a lot of conventional wisdom out the window, because, it’s 2018, kittens, and your audience has the attention span of a… shiny thing!
Where were we?
I forget.
Did you remember?
It’s going to be a fun night tonight at More Than A Guilty Pleasure.

WHAT’S ALL THIS ABOUT?
The writing prompts are part of a course that I’m teaching at the Alexandra Writers’ Centre Society through to November 19:
More Than A Guilty Pleasure: Mastering the Romance Novel Form to Tell the Perfect Story
Registration is long closed, but you can follow the writing prompts and weekly summaries along (the list of the first 21 prompts is HERE).
Your next chance to catch me in person in Calgary is at one of the YYC Queer Writers meet-ups, or, on Thursday, November 22, when I deliver “The Healthy Writer” workshop for the Alberta Romance Writers Association.
