More Than A Guilty Pleasure, Day 27 #writingprompt

WRITING PROMPT:

How hard could it be to seduce someone that shy?

RULES (for everyone)

  • Write–no going back, deleting or revising. WRITE FORWARD.
  • No re-reading your work or showing it to anyone after you’ve written it. This is for your eyes only.
  • Write to a natural ending. Stop. No, you can’t write more. The repeat comes the next day.

RULES (for More Than A Guilty Pleasure Class)

  • You are probably starting to shift from pure process to product. This week, you are plotting and planning, and so every scene you’re writing, really has a purpose.
  • If the writing point does not lead you where you need to go–don’t use it. If you’ve been edging, and you know exactly what to write next–write that.
  • I will feed you writing prompts through to the end of October. Start weaning yourself towards the scene-to-scene writing prompt technique:

Don’t worry about smooth transitions. You’re going to wreck all of them when you re-order your scenes in editing anyway. 😉

Happy writing.

WHAT’S ALL THIS ABOUT?

The writing prompts are part of a course that I’m teaching at the Alexandra Writers’ Centre Society through to November 19:

More Than A Guilty Pleasure: Mastering the Romance Novel Form to Tell the Perfect Story

Registration is long closed, but you can follow the writing prompts and weekly summaries along. This week, we’re going to be diving deep into plotting.

Your next chance to catch me in person in Calgary is at one of the YYC Queer Writers meet-ups, or, on Thursday, November 22, when I deliver “The Healthy Writer” workshop for the Alberta Romance Writers Association.

About mjanecolette

Writer. Reader. Angster. Reformed Bohemian (not). Author of the erotic romance TELL ME, the erotic tragedy (with a happy ending) CONSEQUENCES (of defensive adultery), the award-winning rom-com (she's versatile) CHERRY PIE CURE, and the just released TEXT ME, CUPID--a (slightly dirty) love story for 21st century adults who don't believe in love... but want it anyway. A sought-after speaker and presenter, Colette is also the author of the non-fiction collection of essays ROUGH DRAFT CONFESSIONS: not a guide to writing and selling erotica and romance but full of inside inside anyway, and the curator of the fab YYC Queer Writers anthologies Queer Christmas in Cowtown and Screw Chocolate. Coming in 2019: Once Upon A Queer Summer Night's in Cowtown.
