When I first “met” MEL VEE, she made me break my own rules, which tells ya something–she sent in a submission to the YYC Queer Writers Screw Chocolate 2 anthology a wee bit late, and I had told everyone that my timeline was so tight the deadline was SACROSANCT and there was no way any one was allowed to be even a day light… well. Except for Mel, because when I read her poem, I had to share it with you.

She’s going to perform THAT poem for you at SULTRY & sweet SUMMER reads YYC, and she’s got a brand new piece to share that she says is sweet and sultry. You’re also going to meet the artist and the revolutionary as well as the poet. I can’t wait–people like Mel are who’s gonna change the world. Can you wait? Here is the briefest of introductions. Meet MEL VEE:

MEL VEE mesmerizes, captivates and incites with her spoken word. She is a passionate advocate for the power of narrative to heal and liberate. Mel Vee knows we are the gift we have been hiding from ourselves and seeks to inspire redemption, thoughtfulness, contemplation and joy through her work. She was a member of Calgary’s 2017 slam team, semi-finalists at the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word, co-founding member of the Uproot YYC collective and is currently working on an anti-racist podcast through Community Wise.
