Screw Chocolate Countdown: Heart-Shaped Dough by Callan Field

Nine days to go! The Screw Chocolate Countdown continues today a fiction piece that starts cranky, goes dirty, and might make you drool. Or flinch Maybe other things. By another new-to-YYC Queer Writers and probably to you author:

Photography by Leslie Pringle // wrrldgrrl.com

About the author:

Callan Field is a queer Canadian artist, adventure(r) and dog lover – allergies be damned. An emerging visual artist, he studied environmental science before completing his BFA at Ryerson University in 2014. While his primary medium is photography, his work has expanded to include writing, video, and installation. He was recently selected for The Peel, a multi-layered project featuring six Canadian artists as they canoed into the Arctic Circle through the Peel River Watershed. The documentary and touring exhibition follows the journey of each artist as they express the experience through their unique medium. Learn more at thepeel.ca, and find out more about Callan at callanfield.com and @callanfield on Twitter and Instagram.

So this year, no full texts of anything because I want you to buy the book, because we’re using it to fundraise for Camp fYreFly. But here’s a taste:

This is Callan’s debut with Screw Chocolate… but… mmm, you know, his piece reminds me just a little of THIS valentine from last year:

Screw Chocolate, Volumes 1 & 2!

Roses, cupid’s arrows, chocolate—chocolate? Screw chocolate! Queer up Valentine’s Day instead with these hilarious, heartbreaking (yes, sometimes deliciously filthy) valentines by Calgary authors who have a fresh, occasionally revolutionary (always, insightful) take on love.

Featuring fiction (or is it?), poetry, and non-fiction (or is it?) from Beatrice Aucoin, Dallas Barnes, L. Sara Bysterveld, Lotis Cervantes, M. Jane Colette/Marzena Czarnecka, Callan Field, Elisa Kae, Tanysia Komers,  H. P. Longstocking, Tet Millare, Brooke Nicholas, Alyssa Linn Palmer, Nola Sarina, Dana Stan, T, Mel Vee, Ann Zee, and PW Zellie, and photography from Jennifer Weihmann (Volume 1) and Leslie Pringle (Volume 2).

In February 2017, we launched Screw Chocolate as our first collaborative multi-author multi-media project, and it kind of kicked ass. This year, we are thrilled to bring you Screw Chocolate 2 AND Screw Chocolate, our original 2017 edition — for the first time in a holdable, huggable, kissable, bitable (grrrrr) version.

If you are in Calgary on February 12–COME TO OUR LAUNCH PARTY!

Stay in the loop on what we’re planning for the night by RSVP’ing to our FAB FACEBOOK EVENT:

About mjanecolette

Writer. Reader. Angster. Reformed Bohemian (not). Author of the erotic romance Tell Me, the erotic tragedy (with a happy ending) Consequences (of defensive adultery), and the rom-com (she's versatile) Cherry Pie Cure, as well as the non-fiction collection of essays Rough Draft Confessions: not a guide to writing and selling erotica and romance but full of inside inside anyway. Coming in 2018: Text Me, Cupid, a steamy romance in four episodes. Current WiPs: Queer Christmas in Cowtown, Jewel of the Not-So-Spectacular Boobs, All In the Cards, and Un-Valentine. Yes, working on four projects simultaneously is a spectacularly bad idea.
