MAGPIE LORD by KJ Charles #amreading #amreadingromance #bookreview

So here’s the deal, kittens. I don’t read MM / gay romance. It’s not my thing–I like my queer romance to be FF or enby, and definitely #ownvoices, and while I totally get the appeal of MM romance to its target audience of predom straight women (take gender out of the equation, and oh, the fun you can have with power play dynamics!)–it’s just not my thing.

Having said that… KJ Charles? OMFG.

I’ll read anything that woman writes. If she starts writing steampunk, I’ll be reading steampunk.

Earlier this week, I tore through THE MAGPIE LORD, Charles’ 2017 release and the first novel in her A Charm of Magpies trilogy.

Yum. And delish. And OMFG, so good.

What it’s about:

A lord in danger. A magician in turmoil. A snowball in hell.

Exiled to China for twenty years, Lucien Vaudrey never planned to return to England. But with the mysterious deaths of his father and brother, it seems the new Lord Crane has inherited an earldom. He’s also inherited his family’s enemies. He needs magical assistance, fast. He doesn’t expect it to turn up angry.

Magician Stephen Day has good reason to hate Crane’s family. Unfortunately, it’s his job to deal with supernatural threats. Besides, the earl is unlike any aristocrat he’s ever met, with the tattoos, the attitude… and the way Crane seems determined to get him into bed. That’s definitely unusual.

Soon Stephen is falling hard for the worst possible man, at the worst possible time. But Crane’s dangerous appeal isn’t the only thing rendering Stephen powerless. Evil pervades the house, a web of plots is closing round Crane, and if Stephen can’t find a way through it—they’re both going to die.

Best of all, in the fine tradition of using the first book in a series to hook you into it–it’s currently free on Amazon.

BUY MAGPIE LORD

And now, back to writing. Probably. Keep me the fuck away from my Kindle, Writing Gods. Please?
