Writing Erotica, Getting Organized, Having Orgasms

Happy Day After-International Women’s Day (may we soon not need it).

If you’re in Calgary, come see me tomorrow (Sat. March 10) at the Alberta Romance Writers Association’s March meeting! I’m delivering two workshops that day. In the morning, we’re talking about writing erotica.

Writing Erotica: a filthy flirty workshop for the bold and the shy alike

Whether you love to write dirty, wish you could (but you can’t, OMG, how do people even think such things!!), or wonder what the heck’s wrong with us who do, this workshop will help you apply the tools and rules that make for good, effective “can’t stop turning the pages” erotica to all of your writing. Includes some Freefall-style writing exercises, ruthless editing tips, and guidelines on how to beta-read and critique steamy sex scenes. You’ll laugh, you’ll blush (a little), you’ll create and liberate, and you’ll have a really great Valentine’s Day gift for someone (maybe yourself) at the end of it all. I promise.

This is my favourite slide from that workshop, btw:

And in the afternoon,

The Organized Creative:

planning your writing (creative and business) year – quarter – month – week – and finally day

This hands-on workshop will show you how to organize your days by realistically planning your year, and working backwards-and-forwards throughout the year to stay on track with your goals. You will also learn how to track and maximize your productivity cycles, use a process journal, value your lazy fallow periods, and use your procrastination to nurture inspiration. Some materials will be provided, but bring your day planner or calendar, a crappy, cheap notebook (this is important: not a beautiful, expensive notebook—a cheap, crappy notebook), pens and pencils (the more colourful the better), and index cards and sticky notes.

Here’s the “spoiler” slide:

I’ll have the slides and speaking notes from the workshops up at mjanecolette.com/secrets for workshop attendees and newsletter subscribers, so you know what you’ve gotta to if you wanna have a peek at them. 😉

IN OTHER NEWS

I celebrated International Women’s Day (may we soon not need it; I know I said that before, it’s worth saying again) with friends old and new–planned and serendipitous encounters, what an amazing night–and with Naked Girls Reading. It was AMAZING.

Check out Naked Girls Reading – Calgary on Facebook to find out about their upcoming shows (there’s a reading every month). And If you’re not in Calgary–Naked Girls Reading has chapters in many major North American cities. Maybe you’re in one of the lucky ones!

THAT ORGASM THING

I just put that in to make the headline more interesting. But this is one of the games from last month’s Facebook parties:

MORE NEWS…

You know what, I’m gonna save it. I’m just a little exhausted (the pace of the last two–four–six months has been… just a bit, you know?), and as I hyper-prepare, I need to prep for them workshops tomorrow some more, and I seem to be out of coffee…

I just missed you and wanted to keep you in the loop with what was happening with me, kitten. What’s happening with you? Tell me…

About mjanecolette

Writer. Reader. Angster. Reformed Bohemian (not). Author of the erotic romance Tell Me, the erotic tragedy (with a happy ending) Consequences (of defensive adultery), and the rom-com (she's versatile) Cherry Pie Cure, as well as the non-fiction collection of essays Rough Draft Confessions: not a guide to writing and selling erotica and romance but full of inside inside anyway. Coming in 2018: Text Me, Cupid, a steamy romance in four episodes. Current WiPs: Queer Christmas in Cowtown, Jewel of the Not-So-Spectacular Boobs, All In the Cards, and Un-Valentine. Yes, working on four projects simultaneously is a spectacularly bad idea.
